Information About Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

With new developments happening all the time, treating facial wrinkles has become more specialized with a better understanding of cosmetic treatments. No one wants to be though of as "old" but sadly in this world, having younger looking skin is very important and if there are visible wrinkles others will not find a person as attractive.

What is the process of wrinkle treatments like? There are a lot of choices in where to receive these procedures, but what should a person know when considering treatment? In this article, we will examine wrinkle treatments in more detail.

What are wrinkle treatments?

Toxins in the air are all around us, whether it comes from the exhaust from cars, the smoke from cigarettes, or the burning rays of the sun, skin takes it's share of damage and abuse. This damage can result in the formation of fine lines on the skin called wrinkles, which can be cosmetically unpleasant to look at, especially if there are too many.

Botulinum toxin is used to smooth out the fine lines in one's face, and these wrinkle treatments can make a big difference aesthetically. Laser treatments, simple skin creams, and chemical peels are other options that are designed to accomplish this goal. While all of these are often used, it appears that botox injections are now becoming more and more popular. We see ads for products on the market constantly, but the truth is that anti-wrinkle creams can only do so much to make wrinkles less noticeable.

Which of the available treatments will have the most benefit?

This is a matter of debate right now, there is no definite answer. Facial wrinkles respond differently to different treatments in different patients, so it is hard to say which one would work the best. Dermal fillers such as botox injections are known to be effective in this, according to the information accumulated, and they seem to be favored by many.

How long do treatments last for?

Results for different treatments types vary according to which kind is administered. The limited effects of a product like a skin cream will last for a brief period, but generally it isn't all that effective even when used frequently. More advanced treatments such as dermal fillers and botox injections can last a few months.

Cost and cost efficiency

For treatments such as these, it can't be done for a bargain price. Advanced techniques such as dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation methods and botox injections can cost anywhere from $300 to $3000 (or even more) depending on the person that is performing the procedure. A less expensive option are skin creams, but they need to be used frequently, and products kept replenished. Treatments over time can be more closely examined, and the cost effectiveness of each one can be determined. Botox and other dermal fillers are beginning to look like the most practical and cost effective treatment for facial wrinkles, over time. Some physicians believe that the CO2 laser is the most cost effective measure.

Downtime following procedures

Skin creams for wrinkles have no downtime whatsoever. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. Just because it is the fastest, doesn't necessarily mean it is the most effective or the treatment that patients have the easiest time enduring.

Summary

A wide variety of treatments exist when it comes to facial wrinkle reduction processes. These different treatments have pros and cons that must be weighed by the patient. The ultimate choice will depend on the patient, what they can afford, what they are prepared to undergo and the experience of the treating healthcare professional.
