Why Beauty Matters

By Alistair Nole

These days, it's more accepted that certain signs of aging are best treated in consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, such as wrinkles or a loss of elasticity in the skin. To get the results that you want, proper treatment will provide the correct course of action to target excessive skin or a loss of collagen in certain parts of the face. In the past ten years, there has been dramatic growth in the number of treatment options available, and they are becoming even more popular. So what are some of roots of the motivation people have nowadays to get treatments done?

Certainly, self esteem is at the heart of many people's decision to seek treatments. Some seek improved confidence, and decreased self-consciousness. For example, one may see their nose as large or conspicuous. Whether true or not, if one believes this to be true, the perception can create the reality and cause discomfort and anxiety. Some people work very hard at diet, exercise, makeup, clothes and so on, to look their best, so it can be quite important to address a problem or flaw that they can improve upon, or an area that they would like to make just a bit better. This becomes even more important when it is linked to sexuality.

The end result of a change can actually increase a person's sense of improvement in quality of life or work. This can include things like wearing the bathing suits and clothes you want to wear. Or, going to the beach is enjoyable for you, and you want to feel good about your body. Perhaps you deal with the public a lot or have a very public job. The decision is affected by all these considerations.

Vanity is one of the top motivators and it can be closely connected with self esteem. A desire to get back a lost positive attribute is not unusual. For example, my lips used to be full but now... , I always had a nice figure but now.... When you lose an attribute on which you had positive reinforcement over the years, it's like losing your identity.

When the effects of aging that have been creeping along for a while begin to appear, it's very natural to want to slow down or reverse them. In addition, it's equally normal to want to improve or change a feature that you never liked. Your views may change as you mature -- you might decide that, after years of reflection on a feature, that it is definitely something you would like improved.

Certainly, health reasons are another motivating factor. Many unpleasant postpartum changes to the body that can make any mom depressed. And correcting post-weight loss body changes can be a real tangible benefit. Also, there could be a need to relieve physical factors or symptoms. One example is how a breast reduction can provide relief from chronic recurrent headaches, lower back pain, neck strain, shoulder notching, numbing or tingling in the hands due to nerve stretch; all problems that come with mammary hypertrophy (excessively large, dense and heavy breasts). Most of these problems are totally fixed by a procedure to reduce breast size.

Dramatic changes in life are another motivating factor. Sometimes people feel like their divorce shows on their face, or that their work or other substantial stresses of life have aged them. There are clear, safe and affordable options available for anyone looking to make those changes or small corrections, whatever the reasons.
