How You Can Get Fit Safely Before Summer

By Lori Sims

Bathing suit season is coming quickly and this has people taking on new eating habits (shunning those of the winter season) and promising themselves that they will get in shape before the weather prevents them from hiding their bodies under heavy layers of clothing. So many people throw themselves straight into working out all the time because they are desperate to lose weight and get into shape before anybody gets to see their body. Unfortunately if you try and get into shape too fast, you could really end up hurting yourself. Doctors everywhere assume that it doesn't do you any good to simply jump into a regular exercise regimen. So how are you supposed to get a lean body in time to put on that bikini?

The most important thing you must do is see your doctor. Ask your physician to give you a comprehensive actual physical exam. This will help you see what your starting place is before you start working out and trying to get in shape. Your doctor will help you determine how much you should weigh and what your body mass index should be as well as letting you know if you have any specific health conditions that you need to remember when you start working to get in shape. Your doctor will help you assemble some food guidelines so that you can also work to get your diet under control.

Start bit by bit. Don't try to run five miles immediately. A great plan for working your way into shape is Couch to 5K. This is a plan that increases the distance and time you spend running until you are ready to take on a 5K run. Of course, to get in form you'll want to do more than simply run. It is also important that you work on your strength and endurance training. For people who are pressed for time, using the Couch to 5K program to swimming will let you work all of your bodily systems while helping you get in shape over time.

Find a support group. Sure gaining weight can be embarrassing, but you stand an improved chance of losing weight and getting into shape if you find a few people to work with. You can work together to eat right and exercise-these are usually people who can visit weight watchers meetings with you, take exercise classes with you, etc. If you don't want to do this with people in "real" life, you can find this type of support on the net. You can join one of any number of internet based support groups meant to help with weight loss.

The genuine truth is that it can take time to lose weight and get your body into decent shape. You'll be a lot better off if you can begin changing your eating and exercise habits sooner rather then later. The quicker you begin your efforts, the easier it's going to be to work on building your body steadily and over time. Try to bear in mind this is a scenario when slow and steady really does win the race: your health and body will thank you for your efforts in bathing suit season.
