There are certain foods that you can incorporate into your diet that will help to boost your metabolism. These foods can help you to lose weight more quickly or to maintain the weight you are currently at. There are plenty of fad diets out there, but real weight loss only occurs when you eat right and exercise. Adding the foods mentioned in this article to your diet will give your diet plan the boost it needs.

Spinach and Broccoli - Metabolism is the body's process of turning fat into energy. Spinach is one food that is known to increase metabolism. This food is also a great source vitamin C, potassium, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants, all of which can improve your overall health. Broccoli is another good source of Vitamin C and this helps the body to absorb calcium in a more efficient manner. Calcium is considered by nutritionists to be a metabolic trigger, so the more calcium you have, the faster your metabolism.

Green Tea and Coffee - Green tea contains a substance known as EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate. This catechin can boost your metabolism by speeding up your nervous system and brain function. Consequently, this will increase the rate at which your body converts fat into energy. Coffee on the other hand, contains caffeine, which is a stimulant. By drinking the recommended two to three cups of coffee a day, your metabolism will increase as the body tries to provide enough energy to keep you stimulated and active throughout the day. When taking a cup of tea, you can add cinnamon to enhance the taste. Cinnamon helps to lower cholesterol levels in the blood as well as maintaining a steady sugar level. Regular use can increase the efficiency of your body's metabolic processes.

Jalapenos and Curry - Jalapenos contain capcaisin which is a compound known to increase heart rate and metabolism for several hours after being ingested. Curry and cayenne pepper have the same benefits and can boost taste along with metabolism.

Meals taken during the diet program should be well balanced. All proteins should be obtained from legumes such as beans, or white meats like tuna. Deep fried foods, processed foods and alcoholic drinks should be avoided completely or reduced. Stay away from products containing aspartame among other artificial ingredients. Drink lots of clean water, increase your vegetable and fruit intake and you will be happy with the changes in just a few weeks.
